In The City
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14)
This week we are focusing on the second part of our values statement: We are a church in the city. If being gospel-centered speaks to our priority, then being in the city speaks to our place. Jim Elliot once shared great wisdom when he said, “wherever you are, be all there.” God has placed us in the city, and so we want to be the faithful presence of God’s love right here! When God chose to reveal himself to us, he became flesh and dwelt among us. In the same way, we desire to incarnate the message of the gospel where we live, work, learn and play … praying that we will be the living proof of a loving God right where he has placed us in the city of Nashville.
This week in your prayer time, focus on these three areas:
Being in the city means that presence matters!
Pray that God would use us to faithfully engage with the people that he has placed in our path every day, and that he would revealing Himself through us to our neighbors, co-workers, classmates, friends and family here in Nashville.
2. Being in the city means that relationship matters!
Pray that we would become an increasingly warm and welcoming community of faith where people of all walks of life feel seen, included and deeply loved.
3. Being in the city means that diversity matters!
Pray that our church would become a beautiful reflection of the cultural diversity that we see around us every day.
